Effective April 19, 2026  ·  Last updated April 19, 2026

Limiting Factor (“we,” “us,” “our”) is an independent studio that makes board game apps for iOS and Android. We try to collect as little information about you as possible. This policy explains what we do collect, why, and what your choices are. It applies to our website at limitingfactor.studio and to all the mobile apps we publish under the “Limiting Factor” developer name on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store (together, the “Apps”).

The short version

  • We don't require accounts and we don't ask for your name, email, or contact info to play our games.
  • We don't sell or rent your personal information. Ever.
  • We don't show third-party advertising in our Apps and we don't include cross-app or cross-site tracking.
  • Some basic, anonymized technical information (like crash reports and aggregate usage stats) may be collected so we can fix bugs and improve the Apps.
  • If you contact us by email, we'll only use that email to reply to you.

Information we collect

Information you provide to us

The only personal information we receive is what you choose to send us — for example, if you email us at hello@limitingfactor.studio for support, feedback, or any other reason. In that case we'll receive your email address and whatever you put in the message.

Information collected automatically

When you use our Apps, we (and the platform you're using) may automatically receive limited technical information. This is used only to keep the Apps working well, and may include:

  • Device model and operating-system version.
  • App version, language, and region settings.
  • Anonymized crash reports and diagnostic logs (for example, the kind of error and where in the code it happened).
  • Aggregated, non-identifying usage information (for example, how often a particular game mode is started) so we can understand which features are useful.

We do not link this information to your real-world identity. Where possible we rely on the platform's built-in, privacy-respecting mechanisms (such as Apple's TestFlight diagnostics and Google Play's Android Vitals) rather than embedding third-party tracking SDKs.

Purchases

Any in-app purchases or paid downloads are processed entirely by Apple or Google. We never see your payment details. We may receive an anonymized purchase confirmation from the platform so the App can unlock the content you bought.

Game data on your device

Your in-game progress (saved games, settings, statistics) is stored locally on your device. If you have iCloud or Google Drive backup enabled at the operating-system level, your device may also back this data up to your own personal cloud account. We don't have access to those backups.

How we use information

  • To operate and improve the Apps — diagnosing crashes, fixing bugs, and understanding which features work.
  • To respond to you — replying to support requests, feedback, or questions you send us.
  • To comply with the law — for example, responding to a valid legal request.

We do not use your information to build advertising profiles, to train AI models, or for any purpose unrelated to the Apps you're actually using.

Sharing your information

We share information only in the limited cases below.

  • Service providers. We rely on a small number of trusted infrastructure providers — for example, Apple and Google for App distribution, payment processing, and platform-level crash reporting; and the providers that host this website. They only receive what they need to provide their service to us.
  • Legal requirements. We may disclose information if we are legally required to do so (for example, in response to a court order), or when needed to protect our rights or the safety of others.
  • Business transfers. If Limiting Factor is ever acquired or merged, information may transfer as part of that transaction. The new owner would have to honor this policy.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone.

Data retention

We keep information only for as long as we need it for the purposes described above. Crash reports and aggregated usage statistics are typically retained for up to 12 months and then deleted or further aggregated. Support emails are retained for as long as we may reasonably need them to follow up on your request.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), or similar legislation. These can include the right to:

  • Know what personal information we hold about you.
  • Request a copy of it.
  • Ask us to correct or delete it.
  • Object to or restrict certain uses of it.
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.

Because we collect very little personal information in the first place, in most cases the simplest way to exercise these rights is to email us at hello@limitingfactor.studio. We aim to respond within 30 days.

Children's privacy

Our Apps are designed to be appropriate for a general audience and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country for valid consent under applicable law). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

International users

Limiting Factor is operated from outside your country, and the limited information we receive may be processed in countries other than your own. By using our Apps you consent to this transfer where permitted by law.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy occasionally — for example, if we add a new feature that handles data differently. When we do, we'll update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Material changes will be highlighted in the App or on this page.
